October 10, 2005 – Los Angeles California - Sabaitis • O’Callaghan LLP announces the addition of three new associates to the firm. They include Kelly A. Rody; Melyssa A. Avola; and Brad A. Byszewski.
Kelly A. Rody
Kelly A. Rody obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Ms. Rody thereafter attended Loyola Law School, obtaining her law degree and becoming a member of the California Bar in 2003. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Rody worked with various non-profit organizations as an advocate for refugee populations in the legal and health care arenas. While attending law school, Ms. Rody continued her work with non-profit organizations, analyzing new legislation as an extern for the National Health Law Program. Since becoming a member of the California Bar in 2003, Ms. Rody expanded her focus to the private sector, successfully defending a wide array of clients in all aspects of complex construction defect litigation.
Melyssa A. Avola
Melyssa A. Avola graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with a minor in Political Science. Ms. Avola graduated from Southwestern University School of Law in 2005. While attending Southwestern, Ms. Avola served as the Commissioner of Alumni Affairs and the President of the Southwestern Chapter of the Federalist Society. Ms. Avola was named in “Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities” in 2005. While attending Southwestern, Ms. Avola worked as a paralegal, where she focused on Real Estate Transactions. She also worked as a legal intern for Contessa Food Products, Inc., where she assisted the general counsel with in-house and regulatory compliance, intellectual property protection, contractual agreements, and litigation. In the summer of 2004, Ms. Avola was chosen by the Institute for Justice to participate in a litigation symposium, and next took an externship with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. While with the District Attorney, Ms. Avola was “certified” by the California Supreme Court to appear before the court on behalf of the people of the State of California. Ms. Avola joined Sabaitis • O’Callaghan LLP as a law clerk in September 2005, and is awaiting Bar Results next month.
Brad A. Byszewski
Brad A. Byszewski graduated from the University of Southern California in 2000 with a Bachelor of Art degree in Communication and a Minor in Business Administration. Mr. Byszewski graduated from Loyola Law School in 2005. While at Loyola, Mr. Byszewski worked as a law clerk at Girardi & Keese, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. While with the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Byszewski was “certified” by the California Supreme Court to practice law before California courts as a law student and conduct preliminary hearings. He is a member of the St. Thomas More Society, which honors students in the top 15% of their class, and he earned the highest grade in both his Trial Advocacy and Negotiation classes. Mr. Byszewski took the California State Bar in July 2005 and is awaiting Bar Results next month.
